ma’s haircut

mom’s haircut
it’s like an ancient cut
she sits me down
and cures my rut
may hair grew to my shoulders
i was like it’s another sign i’ve grown older
when like i’m cool with ma’s haircut
like the barber was closed
i’m like just don’t cut my nose
she was like change your clothes
because the hair would make me itch
and like ma’s haircut
the one you get at home
lately i’ve been thinking
she’s 70 and time is precious
with the plague and the death of my grandma
i’ve been thinking of the death of my folks
go ahead and cut my hair ma
it’s another memory with you
